Questions
about Modems and Connecting
Q. What settings do I use to connect to Anbell.Net?
A. You may visit our Getting
Started page which provides you with all the necessary
information to get connected. We provide such information
as our host names, local access phone numbers, as well as
instructions on configuring your dial-up settings for several
different operating systems.
Q.. What types of modems (protocols) do you support?
A. We support V.90 & v.44 protocols.
Q. Do you support V.92?
A. Yes, we support V.92 If you would like
to read more about V.92 and its benefits, please click
here.
Q.Why
don't I connect at 56k?
A. Our equipment is designed for 56k connections;
however, we have no control over the line quality of the phone
lines between your location and ours. If you consistently
experience poor connect speeds you might want to consider
having the phone company test your line.
Q. Can I dial-in from another parish?
A. We have access numbers for most parishes. Visit
our Service Areas page. You
may call from any other parish but that will be a long distance
(inter parish) charge for the duration. Anbell.Net will not
be responsible for additional phone charges.
Q. I have 2 computers. Can I setup Anbell.Net on both
of them?
A. You can setup the Anbell.Net dialup on both computers, but
only one user id may be used on any one computer at a time.
If your computers are networked together, when one is dialed
in to the internet, the other will have internet access as
well.
Q. I keep getting an error code when
I try to connect: What's the problem?
A. Error 602 - another program or device is trying to use the serial
port that your modem uses. Make sure that there are no other
programs open that use your modem, such as fax software. If
you don't find any such programs open, then restart your computer.
Error
629, 650, 678 - this error can occur for several different reasons. The
most important thing to check is the kind of modem you have.
If you see any reference to a "Soft" modem, "Winmodem"
or DSP modem, then it is what is commonly called a controllerless
modem. To solve the problem, double click on the "My
Computer" icon on your desktop. Double click on "Dial-up
Networking". Click on the Anbell Telecommunications
Ltd. icon using the right mouse button. Select "Properties".
Click on the "Configure" button. Select the "Connection"
tab. Click the "Advanced" button. "Flow Control"
should be selected and should be set to "Software (XON/XOFF)".
If it wasn't, then make the change and press ok until you're
back to where you started. The problem should now be solved.
Error
645 - This is the error you will receive
when the dial-in system shows you are already connected and
a second attempt is being made to connect. This error occurs
for several different reasons. If you experienced a communication
problem with your dial-up connection it is possible the system
would still have a record in it showing you are connected.
We limit users to one concurrent dial-in connection per account.
The other possibility is another computer is already dialed
in on your account. Call our toll-free support line, 1.888.CONTACT,
and a representative can reset your user record or assist
you in changing your password if you think someone is using
it without your permission.
Error
691 - You typed in your password or user
id incorrectly, or both are incorrect. Note: passwords
are case sensitive.
